Testimonies of Healing

From the February 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Over five years ago I had a fall on the ice, which, seven months later, developed into an abscess of the spine, causing what the doctors called necrosis of the bone, which, according to their decree, necessitated an operation. After months of intense suffering and hospital life,— being sent there the second time,— I was pronounced incurable in that climate, and was sent to mountainous Colorado to try climate and altitude for tuberculosis. I had become tired and disgusted with drugs and threw them all out of the car window, and in a few months was comparatively well. I was, however, left with a pronounced fistula, which would manifest itself every few months, causing a return to the old treatment and the use of a number of torturing instruments, etc. Although some two years had passed since I first became interested in Christian Science and was a faithful student of Science and Health by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I had not sufficient understanding to heal myself when I was again attacked with an abscess of the spine. At this time of great need I applied to one of Mrs. Eddy's students in our city. The healing was immediate, and even when the decayed matter was passing away there was no soreness or pain or any expression of sickness. After the first treatment I returned at once to my position as bookkeeper. The uplifting and spiritual healing which came with this deliverance from dreaded suffering can never be told in words. I knew that I was healed, and I knew that divine Love had made me free. In a week's treatment not a vestige of my old troubles was left. Last July I entered a class taught by this practitioner, and the physical healing is not to be compared to the spiritual understanding gained,— how to become acquainted with God and how to apply the Christ-truth to every human need. I am prompted to give this testimony from the deepest sense of gratitude, for I feel it is not right to withhold such healing when the works prove that they are of God.
