A little over four years ago Christian Science found me in a hopeless condition. I had taken a course to be a trained nurse, and as a result of too heavy lifting I had hurt myself. I had to spend almost eleven weeks in a reclining position and also undergo quite painful treatment, which, however, brought no noticeable improvement. I feared that every quick movement might cause me pain. I was in a very depressed frame of mind and felt very bitter because of the verdict against me that I would "never regain perfect health."
After I had thus suffered for almost a year, an American lady, a Christian Scientist, came to our house. She felt sorry for me and asked if she might help me. I knew nothing of Christian Science, but after a short explanation of the subject, I was glad to try it, because my desire for a spiritual help was at least as strong as my desire for physical healing. I found both in Christian Science. My physical healing was soon manifested. Four weeks after I began treatment, I had better health than ever before in my life, and it was a festal day for me when I could sacrifice a box filled with medicine which had seemed as necessary as daily bread. The spiritual healing followed much later, although I very soon comprehended the fundamental idea of Christian Science, but I had too good an opinion of myself, and opened my eyes rather slowly to my own errors. O how happy I was after each forward step, and I would not dispense with any of the experiences which led to my spiritual regeneration. I owe much to the patience and faithfulness of the practitioner, who never tired of working for me and of reading Science and Health with me.
With sincere love and reverence I thank Mrs. Eddy for this blessed truth which enables each one of us to lend a helping hand to all our brethren. How faithfully she has worked all these years for suffering humanity! For us who can enjoy the blessing of this work there is but one way to prove our gratitude, and that is to lead all the "weary and heavy-laden" to the truth which alone makes free from sin, sickness, and every other affliction.
