Testimonies of Healing

In gratitude to God for the many blessings received...

From the February 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In gratitude to God for the many blessings received through Christian Science, I wish to give my testimony. It is now over six years since I began to study Christian Science, and these six years have been the shortest, happiest, and fullest years of my life. "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy, was loaned to me, and while reading it a troublesome goitre, which had been on my neck for fourteen years, was entirely healed, and has never since returned. Shortly after this I purchased nearly all of Mrs. Eddy's writings, and read them eagerly, though not without some inward criticism, for while there was much that appealed to me as being unquestionably true, and as showing a clear spiritual insight, yet many statements seemed egotistical to me, and I often wished that Mrs. Eddy had stated them just a little differently. I now know that these statements which antagonized me were the positive statements of truth as revealed to her, and in which she had risen above the temptation to please popular belief.

I have been healed of many discordant conditions, among which are insomnia, palpitation of the heart, stomach trouble, corns, headaches, decaying teeth, periodical and oft-recurring fits of blues, a poor memory, self-depreciation, self-condemnation, fear, worry, anxiety, fatigue. These and many other physical and mental troubles have been overcome through Christian Science, and the spiritual healing has been greater than all else. I am truly grateful for Christian Science, this wonderful revelation of God's love and power. Not long ago a little friend paused beside my desk towards the close of a busy day, and said, as she saw the evidences of the day's work, "Aren't you tired?" I answered at once, "No, I never get tired." Then like a flash came a remembrance of the time when I used to go home from work, weak and nervous, and completely "tired out," wishing for nothing so much as to crawl into bed, and then, only too often, to toss and worry through a sleepless night.

I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her self-sacrifice and patient work. Her life cannot fail to be an inspiration to every earnest Christian Scientist. I am grateful to my dear teacher for the practical understanding of this truth which her teaching has given me. To the loyal Christian Scientist whose words of counsel, cheer, and loving rebuke have helped me along the way, and to the many Christian Science friends whose lives and works have impelled me to higher demonstrations, I am sincerely grateful. Christian Science is the pearl of great price, and no greater fortune can come to any one than to find it.
