The knowledge of Christian Science came to me through...

From the February 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The knowledge of Christian Science came to me through the gentle ministrations of its healing power. For about fifteen years I had suffered from asthma, not continuously, but with attacks lasting from a few days to a few months. Medicine gave no relief, and finally, in desperation, I followed the advice of a friend, and sought Christian Science. To my great surprise I was healed in about ten days. Following closely on the heels of this, was a far greater demonstration. Although no physician was consulted, T feel convinced that the trouble was appendicitis. The pain was intense and visions of a hospital filled my thought. Notwithstanding the recent cure of asthma, I was not willing, at first, to trust so serious a matter to Christian Science, but when the decisive moment came, something impelled me to abandon materia medica. The cure was instantaneous, and the marvelous cessation of pain and the spiritual uplifting which followed gave a potent suggestion of something of which I was wholly ignorant, and from that moment I determined to find out for myself what it was that could work so wonderful a transformation. It required a year of the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" to convince me of the truth revealed therein.

Since the acquisition of those life-giving glimpses of Truth, the ills of the flesh and disposition are gradually giving way, under the power and influence of divine Love; for only Love, and that divine, can work the seeming miracle of the regeneration of the disposition. Through the beneficent influence of infinite Love, the burdens and cares, "that infest the day," now "fold their tents like the Arabs, and as silently steal away." They go so quietly and unobtrusively, that sometimes. I wonder where they have gone to, until that "small, still voice" echoes the sweet and glad refrain, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Then I know where they have gone.

The healing of the flesh sinks into insignificance, in comparison with the joy and peace which this knowledge has brought into my life, and I want to bear testimony, deep grateful, and emphatic, to that regenerating truth which has come to me and made possible to me the touching of the hem of the garment which makes whole. I love Christian Science, as taught and demonstrated by that earnest, consecrated student of God, our beloved Leader.
