Testimonies of Healing

Two years ago I was suffering with bronchial tuberculosis...

From the February 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Two years ago I was suffering with bronchial tuberculosis, when Christian Science was brought to my notice by my physician. I had been confined to my bed most of the time for seven months, and, being a trained nurse, I knew there was nothing known to the medical profession that would benefit me. I was tired of suffering, and longed for death. One day I remarked to my physician that if suicide was not such a cowardly act I would take the contents of a bottle of morphia that was in my hypodermic case He silent for a few moments, and then said, "Why don't you try Christian Science?" I replied that my imagination was not lively enough to grasp it He remarked that he knew several people who had apparently been cured by it. The following Sunday I decided to make an effort and go to their service. I did so, and after the service I took my first treatment. In about five weeks I was perfectly healed.

I had been compelled to wear glasses constantly for ten years on account of a severe case of astigmatism. I had not been able to read at night or do anything that required close attention, and suffered intense pain with my eyes I had been informed by my oculist that my left eye was in such a serious condition caused by contraction of the muscles that I might lose my sight if I did not use the utmost precaution. In one treatment in Christian Science I was completely cured. I left off my glasses and have never worn them since, and can read the very finest print without difficulty. I have been enabled through Christian Science to overcome a very severe case of nervous prostration and an attack of the grip.

Is it strange that I should feel most grateful to God and to our dear Leader for giving this truth to the world,' and to all who have helped me to gain what little understanding I have of Christian Science. I have learned through this Science that "The Lord is my shepherd." I am striving and shall continue to strive for that Mind which was in Christ Jesus.—
