About the middle of January, 1915, after exhausting every remedy known to the medical profession for the relief of a stubborn cough of years' standing, I was invited to visit the Christian Science church, and attended a Wednesday evening meeting with my brother. At the close of the meeting I met many pleasant people, and was greatly impressed with their kindness and interest in me, when my past life had been so full of sin.
The next day I secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and began to read it. I soon decided it was the truth, and at once visited a practitioner's office, where I got my first glimpse of a God who was near and who cared for me. I read the book at every opportunity, and soon found that the taste for tobacco and liquor had gone, and that all the sins common to such habits were leaving me; even the places of entertainment I formerly enjoyed had lost all attraction for me. My cough too gradually yielded, and I was able to lay aside glasses after having worn them for twelve years. I have also been healed of a violent temper and a sullen disposition; and where once the world seemed to have only hardships for me, I now enjoy the happiness and freedom of one who can claim man's birthright,—dominion over all.
About a year ago I suffered from an abscess, the result of a rectal trouble. A surgeon who examined it seemed to feel that an operation was inevitable; but I turned again to Christian Science, and through the faithful efforts of the practitioner the abscess soon entirely disappeared, also a skin disease which had affected different parts of my body for years.
