Testimonies of Healing

With a heart full of gratitude I...

From the May 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With a heart full of gratitude I give this testimony in regard to what Christian Science has done for me and mine during the past twenty-three years. When medicine failed to help me, I turned to Christian Science, and was soon freed from the bondage of bowel trouble. At the same time my little daughter was healed of rheumatism. The neighbors said she would pass on unless she had medical attention, and not knowing much about Christian Science, I was filled with fear. When I wrote to the practitioner (my daughter was having absent treatment) and told him of my fear, it was soon destroyed, and the child was restored to better health than she had ever before experienced. In three weeks she was out of bed and well.

During all these years my two daughters and myself have relied wholly on Christian Science when sickness and various other problems have been manifested. A beautiful demonstration was made for me about three years ago. I slipped and fell in the yard, and in falling threw my right arm above my head. I got up immediately, but the next morning could not dress myself and had to ask for assistance. I tried to treat myself, but after a few weeks, as there seemed to be no improvement, I applied to a practitioner for help. Absent treatment was given me for three weeks, and still the trouble did not yield. Another practitioner treated me, but with no better result.

During all this time one of my sons had wanted me to see a doctor, and at last I did so, thinking it was best to do as he wished, for his thoughts of fear and anxiety might hinder the work in Science. After an examination the physician said the ligaments had been torn away at the shoulder and he did not think they would ever go back into place. He also said he thought the arm would be useless, although he would do what he could. He bandaged the shoulder firmly, and I kept the bandage on for two weeks. He then said he had done all he could, and added, "If Christian Science can do anything for you, it is more than I can do." I was not discouraged, for I knew that "with God all things are possible." I asked another practitioner to take up treatment, and in six weeks I could comb my hair and dress myself. In three months my arm and shoulder had become perfectly normal.
