Five years ago I was invited to attend a lecture on Christian Science to be given in a near-by city. I went to this city on the date specified, but did not think that I would go to the lecture. As the time drew near, however, I decided it would not do me any harm, even if I did not receive any good. The one thing I remember hearing was the statement. "God is Love." The following day I experienced a motor cycle accident which seemed very painful to me. After I had had three X-ray pictures taken of my foot, the doctor told me I had better buy a pair of crutches, as I would not be able to walk without them for at least five weeks. This seemed impossible, as I could not do my work and walk on crutches.
At that time I was very much opposed to what I thought Christian Science to be, but decided that I would try it just to prove to my friends that it could not heal where the ligaments were torn away from the bone, as the X-ray pictures had shown to be the case. I asked a very dear friend of mine, a Christian Scientist, to call a practitioner for me. This she did about half past nine in the evening. After relating my problem to the practitioner I was told to retire and get a good night's rest. This seemed impossible, as I could not bear the weight of my foot on a pillow. However, I was asleep in about ten minutes, and did not awaken until late the next morning. Upon seeing what time it was I arose very quickly and dressed before I thought about my foot. Then I tried to see if there were any trace of soreness. Fear caused me to use both crutches to get to the breakfast table. Upon leaving I used only one crutch to walk to the barber's shop four blocks away, and upon returning I laid aside the other crutch and walked five blocks to the practitioner's home for another treatment. During this treatment I was told to read from Science and Health, page 495, lines 14–24. The next morning I was completely healed and able to go to my work.
Convinced that Christian Science could heal, I bought a copy of Science and Health and began to study to find out how the healing came about. As I did this, my whole life began to change. Morally I was lifted out of a life that was very unpleasant. As I learned more about God a healing from the use of glasses, which I had worn for several years, was realized instantaneously.
