In 1898 the best doctors in Lausanne advised me to go through an operation. This I did, but with no good result; for a short time afterwards I suffered as much as before. Eleven years later it was necessary to operate again. Relief lasted some time; but in 1913, the pain having begun again, I went to see several physicians, one after another. They all said there was not a great deal to do; that it was a falling of the stomach and kidneys! I had suffered from this condition for twelve years, eating no solid food, according to the doctors' prescriptions. I was also very thin and weak. Two years ago I again had an X-ray examination, and a doctor said there were ulcers in my stomach and a tumor in my side; that he might try another operation, but he would not advise it.
In June of that year a friend spoke to me of Christian Science and lent me some copies of Le Héraut. I went to see a Christian Science practitioner, who explained to me God's love, and told me not to fear anything; that I could eat bread, and that it would not cause any suffering. She said, "You will prepare supper and eat it with your family without giving it any thought." So that day I ate bread and butter for the first time in many years, and did not notice it. Since then I have taken all my meals regularly as others do, and all has been well. Pain and disease have not reappeared.
I am so grateful to God, who supported me during so many years and brought me deliverance, to the practitioner who helped me with such love and kindness, and to Mrs. Eddy for the Science which has also been a messenger of health for other members of my family.—Lausanne, Switzerland.
