Christian Science, as taught by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder, has been my guide and help on numerous occasions for the last eighteen years. Gratitude records many healings, of which the following was outstanding in its quickness. With a very painful sensation which had lasted for about three weeks, and which was accompanied by rigid muscles of the neck and head, preventing the head from moving except under pronounced pain, I entered on my duty as usher the night of a Christian Science lecture. The position assigned to me gave me an opportunity of standing but a few feet behind the lecture platform, thus making it possible for me to hear practically every word of the lecture and to imbibe its spirit. During this lecture, at the moment when a modern case of healing of a woman whom Satan had bound was related, and as the lecturer spoke the words, "Lift yourself up," I felt a sensation in my neck. Later I found that the pain and rigidity had disappeared in accordance with Mrs. Eddy's words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 162), "It [Christian Science] ... relaxes rigid muscles."
I ascribe this healing to gratefulness and a willingness to serve, in spite of mortal mind's demands to coddle error, which made me receptive to the healing Christ, Truth; to the lecturer's correct affirmation of absolute truth and her reflection of loving-kindness, which permeated the entire lecture; and above all to our revered Leader's clear teaching of the ever-presence of divine Principle and Principle's ever-willingness, ever-readiness, and ability to heal "all manner of disease."— Chicago, Illinois.
