That Christian Science heals surgical cases, sets broken bones and dislocations, I know to be a fact. One evening I slipped and fell on an icy sidewalk, injuring an ankle to such an extent that I was unable to walk. The pain was so intense that for a few moments I lay where I had fallen, repeating aloud the words, "'All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468). Through the declaration of God's omnipotence and the realization of His presence I gained a sense of protection. I was very thankful for kind help offered by a gentleman and his wife, who found me and assisted me to reach my home. On my arrival a practitioner was called immediately. During the night I rested well, but about five o'clock in the morning I awoke with cramp in my foot and ankle. The pain was so severe that it was necessary to call the practitioner. This condition was met instantaneously, and I have never been troubled with cramp since.
The realization of the power of God came to me very forcefully amid a great deal of fear and anxiety. It was thought advisable to have a physical examination, and a physician was called. I was so busy dreading the coming event, and worrying about what it would bring to light, that I left God out of it entirely! Just at that time, when big fears and little fears seemed to be taking possession of me, a great desire to trust God came to me. I knew that it had been proved time and again, for me and for others, that God is all-powerful, and that nothing is impossible to Him. Because people did not seem ready to accept this in every case, especially in surgical cases, was no reason for me to doubt.
I went to my room and opened the Christian Science Hymnal at the page where are found these uplifting lines:
