To-Day, as never before, humanity is longing for relief from the burdens of sin, disease, fear, and discouragement, and is searching for a way out of its difficulties. There is only one way out. Deliverance from the ills which seem to beset mankind can be gained only through Christian Science, which gives one the true knowledge of God and of the nature of man as His image and likeness. All the ills of mortal existence are the result of a wrong concept of God and man. The false belief that evil is real and powerful, and that man is its helpless victim, subject to chance and change, together with the belief in a changeable God, who is supposed to send affliction on His children—these erroneous beliefs are the cause of all earthly woe.
Christ Jesus said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Christian Science affirms the truth that God is Love, and that man is His beloved son; and this true knowledge, or spiritual understanding, correctly applied, heals the discordant conditions of mortal existence, so proving evil's nothingness.
Many earnest Bible students have wished that Christ Jesus might come again to earth, so that they might drop their burdens at his feet. But the Master's words assure us that the Christ, Truth, is never absent from men; for he said, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." Our real spiritual self-hood, the Christ-idea, is always present, so compassing the destruction of material beliefs and leading into heaven, harmony. The Master said, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing."
