About eleven years ago my mother tried Christian Science as a last resort and was healed. She had been a sufferer for years with two kinds of heart disease, and had been given up by her doctors. This healing made quite an impression on me, but I felt no particular desire to find out what Christian Science was. I felt no need of it for myself, though I respected it and was always interested to hear of its many healings.
Five years later, while in New York City dancing professionally, and also trying to take lessons in dancing every day, I suddenly found myself in fear of a complete breakdown. A doctor who was called by friends insisted that I return home for a rest. Getting no better, I did so. When I reached home my mother told me that I should choose which I wanted, Christian Science or medical treatment. After a slight hesitation I decided for Christian Science, and a practitioner was called. Two months later I was back in New York at work, completely recovered from the breakdown. I was deeply grateful for this healing and became more interested in Christian Science. During the next few years minor difficulties occurred, but with the help of a dear practitioner these were all very quickly overcome. Among them were strained ligaments, colds, and toothache.
My husband and I are both members of The Mother Church and of a branch church. These past five years, since we have been trying to gain a real understanding of Christian Science, have been rich with spiritual blessings. We have had many physical healings, among them the overcoming of a severe throat infection, rheumatism, sores in the mouth, and a badly sprained ankle. The healing of the last named took place in one week, and I am grateful for the better understanding I gained during that time. My husband had experienced the same thing many years before, and had been unable to work for months. After one week the demonstration was complete and I resumed my dancing. We are both grateful for all the activities of the Christian Science movement. Our work necessitates our traveling a great part of the year, and we are so grateful for the Christian Science churches and Reading Rooms throughout the country. We can never express the gratitude we feel for the good that has come into our lives through Christian Science.
