Depreciation of the currency of several nations has raised some difficult problems as to the purchase of Christian Science literature in such countries. The Christian Science Publishing Society, being located in America, carries on its activities upon a dollar basis. The problem of exchange is not an easy one to solve, and many hours have been spent in endeavoring to arrive at some adjustment or concession which would ease the burden on subscribers without depriving The Mother Church of the legitimate income for which Mrs. Eddy provided in Section 2 of Article XXV of the Church Manual, and which is used to the benefit of both churches and individual Christian Scientists the world over.
If the currencies of the different countries were maintained at a stable rate of exchange, the problem would be simplified; but this is not the case, as exchange against the dollar varies day by day. Thus arises a situation which at this time it is impossible to meet. Therefore, the Trustees of the Publishing Society are agreed that the price of the literature should be maintained on the basis of the American dollar; and such adjustments as seem necessary to meet difficult conditions of payment in specific instances of need may be made through other channels, provided by the Board of Directors of The Mother Church.
