Testimonies of Healing

[Original testimony in German]

As a child I took great interest in...

From the September 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As a child I took great interest in reading about the healing works of our Master, as they are recorded for us in the New Testament. Then in later years, when a great deal of disease and heartache occurred in our family, I often thought how happy was the situation in Jesus' time, when people could take their sick ones to him.

For several years now I have been an adherent of Christian Science. One day I read the Scriptural passage, "And they brought unto him all sick people . . . and he healed them." Then I realized with great joy that we can come to Christian Science with all our sickness and with all our trouble, and that the Christ heals us today as then. Through the understanding that "Love is reflected in love" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 17) happiness has come to our home, and worry has dropped away from me through the recognition that we are always living in the presence of God.

I wish to express my joy and gratitude for a wonderful healing. In 1928 I was taken ill with a violent attack of spinal trouble. Every morning I did my mental work so as to be able to get up and take care of my most urgent affairs. I declared continually that error is nothing, and that Truth can and will overcome the belief in it. One day, however, the error tried to keep me fast in bed, and great depression tried to lay hold of me. Then the thought came to me, What would our beloved Master have said if such a temptation had come to him? At the same moment there also came to me the reply. Jesus said to the tempter, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." When I began to consider these wonderful words in the light of Christian Science, I understood that the real man, created by God, does not live in and of matter, but in and through Spirit. My sadness changed into joy and gratitude; I was able to get up, healed; and the trouble has never reappeared.
