In deepest gratitude I wish to exclaim with the Psalmist: "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases."
In the summer of 1922, when I heard of Christian Science for the first time, I was wretched and heavy-laden. I suffered intensely from a belief in heredity. Three of our children had become victims of this consuming fear, for the doctors had diagnosed this trouble as an inherited condition and declared the healing of tuberculosis an impossibility. The physician advised us to take the two girls, one eight and the other ten years of age, to a specialist. The latter found the children already in a bad condition and declined any responsibility.
But "man's extremity is God's opportunity." We heard of Christian Science, bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and attended the church services. A practitioner lovingly helped me. She explained to me the rudiments of Christian Science and aided me to get a better understanding of God and man. She showed me that God is Love, and that man, made in the image and likeness of God, is perfect, reflecting health and harmony. Through the work of the practitioner and the realization of the truth I was soon freed from fear, and after a short time the girls were healed. I discarded all medicines and homeopathic remedies. On the occasion of a medical examination at school, the physician was very much surprised at the healing and asked what doctor we had consulted. This demonstration was wonderful and complete.
