CHRISTIAN SCIENCE was first introduced to me at a time when I was in great need, mentally and physically. I had taken a new position, and my employer laid The Christian Science Monitor on my desk, saying that it came once a week because the company carried an advertisement in its columns, and since he received it daily, I could have this copy. The religious article on the Home Forum page attracted my attention and I looked forward to receiving the paper each week. Before the end of four months I had found the Christian Science Reading Room, purchased a copy of Science and Health, and was attending the church services. It has been over six years since I attended my first Christian Science service, and I am deeply grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, for class instruction, and the privilege of serving on the Monitor Advertising Information Committee, because I realize the peace and joy and full life I have gained through being introduced to the Monitor.
The physical healings I have experienced and witnessed in my family are numerous and for them I am grateful, but the mental peace means more to me, because I understand that it is through purification of consciousness that the physical healings resulted. Violent sick headaches were permanently healed when I was awakened to the importance of tolerance and patience; it was a great joy to discipline my thoughts daily so that neither intolerance nor impatience could gain entrance. Adhesions were healed instantaneously when a practitioner denied their reality in an impersonal manner one day while we were visiting. Before taking up the study of Christian Science I was never free from cold and sore throat during the winter months and often not in the summer. Now I never have either. Blood poisoning was healed in three days through the help of a practitioner.
My heart is filled with tender love and gratitude for the privilege of guiding and rearing a child in Christian Science. It is the loveliest experience to grow in the understanding of divine Love, which is higher than the love of a human mother. Each problem, either mental or physical, is met quickly. A tumor was healed overnight; measles was healed in three days; severe burns were healed in a short time; and a spider bite on the eyelid was healed within a week.
