DISCOVERER, FOUNDER, LEADER

From the July 1937 issue of The Christian Science Journal

MRS. EDDY, writing of the Trinity on page 331 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," refers to Christ as "the spiritual idea of sonship." Christ is therefore the universal spiritual ideal, the infinite, spiritual image— idea—of God, Spirit, Mind.

When the Christ—the true or spiritual idea of God, bringing the truth about man, universe, law, power, action, government, home, heaven—appears to human consciousness, it becomes Saviour, Redeemer, Messiah. And Mrs. Eddy defines Christ (ibid., p. 583) as "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." This definition agrees with the Scriptural passage, "The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

It was this Christ, Truth, which Jesus taught and demonstrated. It was the Christ revealed by him and proved by him in healing the sick and the sinning that made him the anointed, the Way-shower and Exemplar for mankind. That the way of Christ is the true way of salvation was abundantly proved, not only by Jesus, but by his immediate disciples, and also by his early followers during several succeeding centuries.
