Testimonies of Healing

So innumerable are the blessings...

From the July 1937 issue of The Christian Science Journal

So innumerable are the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science that I wish to express my gratitude in the hope that my experience may be of benefit to others.

In 1917 word was sent me that my mother had lost her mind. Upon arriving home I found that each day she was having five and six spells, pronounced by the doctors a mild form of epilepsy. They declared that because of her advanced years she would never be any better. The fact was constantly with me that God is Mind, infinitely present; therefore Mind cannot be lost. Each time the spells would show signs of coming, the declaration would instantly come to me, "There are no such things as demons; they cannot touch her; they cannot do one thing; they are nothing and nowhere." In a little over two weeks her mind was entirely restored. Within five or six weeks the spells were overcome, and they never returned during the fourteen remaining years of her life. About ten years after this healing I read in the Encyclopedia Britannica that demons are supposed to cause this trouble. We are commanded by Jesus, and it is quoted on the cover of each of Mrs. Eddy's writings, "Cast out demons." I rejoice to know that they are only false beliefs, and we can cast them out. The ability to meet the foregoing situation, with my father on the verge of a collapse also, with the result of my having overcome a bad case of resentment over what others thought I should do, when I sincerely and submissively said, "Well, God, if that is what You want me to do, all right; I cannot be where You are not, and there is only good where You are."

My first healing through Christian Science was of astigmatism, which the doctors said would cause me to wear glasses always. Periodical tonsillitis, rheumatism, pyorrhea, kidney trouble, three severe cases of poisoning, and many other physical discords have given way to harmony. While I was driving a car with a loose steering wheel, a dangerous situation arose, and I realized that the car was turning over. Then the thought, "God is all there is," came to my consciousness with absolute precision. The next thing I knew I was standing on the ground beside the badly damaged car, with not even my hat disarranged. The engine was still running, so I asked some men to set the car up, and, without a pang of fear, drove the wreck, which was beyond repair, two miles, which greatly astonished the garage owners.
