CHRISTIAN SCIENCE teaches us the true design for right living. It tells us of our true nature and what we must do to manifest our true selves. When clearly understood and conscientiously applied, it enables us to develop our real harmonious individuality, thus making for happiness in our own thinking and in our relationship with others.
How often, since childhood, have many of us wished for some of the qualities which we have seemed to lack, and which, to human sense, are comprised in a pleasing personality! One may have the faculty of making friends quickly and of enjoying personal popularity. Another, with an equally fine character, finds it difficult to express love toward others, and consequently may feel isolated, having few friends or close acquaintances. This false sense can be corrected. We can emerge from the shackles and limitations of belief in material personality and can gradually but surely demonstrate our true individuality, as we daily learn how to be guided and governed solely by the one infallible law of Life.
Where do we start, and how do we proceed? In the first chapter of Genesis we read, "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has written (p. 117): "'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God' (St. John). This great truth of God's impersonality and individuality and of man in His image and likeness, individual, but not personal, is the foundation of Christian Science."
