It is with a deep sense of humility that I wish to express my gratitude for the rich blessings Christian Science has brought to me for the past twenty-two years. This Science has proved innumerable times the irresistible power of divine Love to meet and master every false, aggressive mental suggestion of human experience.
From early childhood I was in bondage to some physical ill or other; nearly everything I ate seemed to distress me, and the doctor said that I had ulcers of the stomach. In later years I was attacked with gastritis; my suffering was extremely painful. Shortly afterward I contracted a severe case of pleurisy, which developed into pleural pneumonia. From these conditions I became the victim of tuberculosis.
I went to California in the hope of regaining my health, but at the end of five years I returned home still in bondage to this ailment. When I was doing dressmaking at a friend's home I was seized with a hemorrhage of the lungs. This friend asked if I would like the help of a practitioner. I had no understanding of Christian Science, having studied the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly for only a short time, but I accepted. Within about twenty minutes the hemorrhage ceased; this was about half past four in the afternoon. The textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was given to me, and I read "the scientific statement of being" (p. 468) a number of times, after which this friend explained its meaning to me. We retired at eleven o'clock in the evening. However, fear seemed to be manifested, and about one o'clock there was another hemorrhage. Again the practitioner was called, and I was instantaneously healed. There has been no recurrence or trace of this ailment since that time, which was over twenty-one years ago.
