In the year 1896 I was healed through Christian Science, and not one of the ailments has ever returned. I had been confined to bed for some time, and had not slept without opiates for several weeks, nor had I been able to take any food without suffering excruciating pain. Various remedies had proved ineffective to bring about bowel movements. I "had suffered many things of many physicians," and was hoping for the end rather than the continuance of life.
An old friend of the family came to spend the day, and talked much about Christian Science and of the healing of cancer which came to her through the reading of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She told me I could be healed also, but at that time I was not inclined to listen. She came again in a few days, however, and talked of this healing truth, but with the same result. She came the third time, and I told her to bring the practitioner to see me, which she did the next day. This practitioner told me that God is Love, and that God had not made me sick—a statement which arrested my thought, as I had formerly been told that He had made me sick, and that I must be patient.
On the following Monday I started to read the textbook, and had my first treatment, with the result that I slept that night without opiates. The next day I took some food without ill effects; the third day I was up and dressed; the following Saturday I walked to the practitioner's home, a distance of three miles, and back again. Every organ had resumed its natural function, and even the corns on my feet had disappeared. I was well, and had learned that God is Love.
