WHOM DO WE OBEY?

From the November 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A WONDERFUL answer to the question, "Whom do we obey?" is found in St. Paul's letter to the Romans: "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"

Christian Science teaches that one grows spiritually in direct proportion to his understanding of and obedience to spiritual law. Understanding and obedience are allied, and each operates consciously as the other is acquired.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has, throughout her writings, stressed the importance of obedience. One of her most remarkable addresses, available to us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 116), is on this great subject. A grasp of the meaning of obedience convinces one of the vital necessity to develop this quality of thought. To understand obedience and express it brings the realization and proof of its exalting influence.
