In one simple sentence Christ Jesus gave to humanity the key to an infallible, scientific healing method, when he spoke these memorable words to one of the rulers of the synagogue: "Be not afraid, only believe." Bible students are familiar with the incident. This ruler had come to Jesus seeking healing for his little daughter. Then came a messenger who told him that the little girl was dead, and asked why he should trouble the Master any further. Not at all disturbed or dismayed, and without one word of inquiry as to the circumstances surrounding the case, Jesus instantly addressed to the father the healing words, "Be not afraid." When he came to the house he bade the child arise, and to the amazement of those around him she was completely restored to health.
No halfway measures with Jesus! When he was able to establish mental response in those seeking help, he never failed to bring clearly to their apprehension the power of God to bring complete deliverance. He did not concern himself with the physical aspects of the case. He never tried to achieve healing by manipulating matter, never delved into the past or present of those seeking healing. Then and there he saw man—the real man, the only man there is— spiritual, whole, perfect, the recipient of all that the Father has to bestow.
"Jesus required neither cycles of time nor thought in order to mature fitness for perfection and its possibilities. He said that the kingdom of heaven is here, and is included in Mind; that while ye say, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest, I say, Look up, not down, for your fields are already white for the harvest; and gather the harvest by mental, not material processes." Thus writes Mrs. Eddy on pages 11 and 12 of her book "Unity of Good." And how comforting are her words to those wondering if the time is propitious, or if they are worthy of healing!
