THE CORRECT VIEW

From the August 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was a bright summer's day and a student of Christian Science was looking out through the window upon the beauties of the countryside. His interest was aroused by the discovery that, when viewed through one part of the window, houses and trees appeared misshapen, while through another section of the pane the same objects seemed almost unrecognizable. The objects had not changed, but observed through faulty glass they appeared distorted. It would have been useless to attempt the correction of the scenery. All that needed to be put right was the windowpane, which, being faulty, gave an incorrect impression.

This illustration was invaluable to the student. He discerned more clearly the fact, as taught in Christian Science, that, because the real man is now and forever perfect, he does not have to be saved or healed. The perfection of man is an eternal fact, based squarely upon the perfection of God, the only cause; for "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him."

The healing effect of holding to this right concept of God and His manifestation is shown in the ninth chapter of St. John's Gospel. There we learn that a man born blind received his sight when Christ Jesus brought to his darkened consciousness the light of divine Love. For more than twenty years this man had not seen the light of day, and now his sight was restored, for God had healed him. Did not this healing afford the highest possible proof that God is Love, and that the spiritual understanding of His allness is the perfect remedy for every ill?
