Testimonies of Healing

When I first began the study of...

From the July 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I first began the study of Christian Science, seven years ago, domestic conditions were very inharmonious. I wanted happiness so much that I was prepared to be receptive to all the good I could find.

One great lesson, after healings of malarial fever and influenza, came after the birth of our son. I had a wonderful opportunity to prove the protecting love of God. I left the nursing home when the baby was twelve days old, and for seven days his bowels did not move. Fear consumed me. I did metaphysical work, but it seemed of no avail. The child, however, was only restless, but not ill. I left him alone one afternoon and went for a walk on the farm. The problem remained uppermost in my thought. Suddenly I realized that I had no fear. When I got home his bowels had acted freely. This overcoming of fear was indeed a lesson to me.

I am especially grateful to Christian Science for the renewed health I have enjoyed. All my life I had suffered from anemia, constipation, and great lassitude after any exertion, and I had never been without an iron tonic of some sort. Since taking up the study of Christian Science I have been able to do hard work all day, and every day, without any ill effects whatever.

I have been compelled, through circumstances, to rely radically on divine Love, and this reliance is now resulting in an abundant supply of all my needs, the peace which "passeth all understanding," and a great longing to impart these blessings to others. At one time we had very little money and no home of our own, but we have been guided and blessed all along the way, according to our faith and understanding, and we are now progressing towards owning our own farm and home and a flourishing business. This has all come about through our study of Christian Science.

My gratitude, I feel, must show itself in works, not words. To live Christian Science is not easy to material sense, but it is a glorious privilege, and the rewards are great.

The literature is of inestimable value to us, for we are too far away to attend a branch church or to meet other Christian Scientists. I have found the solution to every problem in the literature, and have proved the words of the Bible, "Seek, and ye shall find." To the practitioners who have helped me, from time to time, my gratitude is unbounded. I am also grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church; this, I feel, gives me a status and a responsibility which I would not be without.—
