Like many others all over the...

From the January 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Like many others all over the world who are testifying to the healing power of Christian Science, I should like to add my testimony and express my gratitude to God and to Mary Baker Eddy for her inspired and faithful work in giving to the world a demonstrable Science, explaining in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the wonderful works wrought by Christ Jesus, and showing conclusively that the same power is available for everyone to demonstrate today. When I first heard of Christian Science, I was suffering from a form of chronic indigestion which forced me to live on a very strict diet. I was taking medicine before and after meals, and had grown very thin, becoming more and more afraid of the most simple foods on account of the suffering which I believed they produced. On reading the Christian Science textbook, I soon perceived that it was my fear about the food, and not the food itself, which was affecting me. And as I continued to read, I lost much of my fear; my health improved greatly, so that I began to eat normally, and have continued to do so ever since.

I have also been greatly helped in overcoming a fear of taking cold. My children seemed to catch cold very easily, and I was filled with fear when I saw the first sign of this complaint. I had a great dread of infection, and believed that each cold, followed by the usual bronchial cough, must inevitably pass through the nursery, claiming each child in turn. This cycle, I am grateful to say, was overcome in proportion as I lost my fear. I now realize that God's children are surrounded by love; that God alone is their inheritance, and that only good can be expressed by them.

In the manifold experiences in my daily life I have turned to Christian Science for comfort and support, and through its teachings, and the understanding of God's presence and power as ever available, my problems have been solved, and difficult situations have worked out harmoniously. Through the faithful and loving work of a practitioner I have been greatly helped in overcoming a tenacious and severe form of sick headache; I have gained a better understanding of the words, "Stand porter at the door of thought" (Science and Health, p. 392), and have many times proved the efficacy of obedience to this command. I was healed of palpitation of the heart in one treatment by a practitioner.
