"THE LAND OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE"

From the October 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

TODAY many are asking, "Where may I find the health, peace, supply, which are not subject to chance, change, depletion, loss?" Christian Science reveals the answer to this question to the satisfaction of all earnest seekers for Truth. The teachings of Christian Science, applied and practiced in individual experience, bring into consciousness the joy that stays, the peace that endures, the understanding of substance that is secure, because these are based on the fact of God's allness and of man's spiritual likeness to and oneness with God.

In writing of her search for Truth, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 226, 227), "I saw before me the awful conflict, the Red Sea and the wilderness; but I pressed on through faith in God, trusting Truth, the strong deliverer, to guide me into the land of Christian Science, where fetters fall and the rights of man are fully known and acknowledged." Through the centuries men have had differing concepts of heaven—the ideal dwelling place. One of the Old Testament writers described the land into which God should lead the children of Israel as "a land flowing with milk and honey." Jesus gave the true concept of the ideal land, where harmony, happiness, substance, and life are unlimited, unchanging, unending, which differed radically from all other concepts. He said, "Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you."

There remains little land on this earth to be discovered and explored; but "the land of Christian Science," which, until its discovery by Mrs. Eddy in the latter half of the nineteenth century, was comparatively unknown, stands at the threshold of each individual consciousness, waiting to be acknowledged as each one's true dwelling place. The Bible, together with the Christian Science textbook and the other writings of Mrs. Eddy, provides what is needed to guide men into the realization of God's eternal presence and infinite perfection, and of man's oneness with his Father-Mother. Christian Science helps us to cast out of our consciousness the belief of materiality and mortal existence, concealing the kingdom of heaven within, man's spiritual perfection as God's image and likeness, and leads us to the enjoyment of our rights as God's children here and now.
