ON page 96 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, in a graphic passage, writes: "This material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace."
Throughout human history men have often taken the wrong side, accepting the inevitability of "discord and dismay," because of the evidence of the five physical senses. Few, as yet, have attained to sufficient recognition of "the other side," the side of "Science and peace," wherein knowledge of the unchanging divine Mind brings calm to the troubled heart, and whereby the fears and trials of so-called mortal existence are overcome.
Many individuals in our day have begun to discern the spiritual fact of perfect being and to reject the false testimony of material sense as the result of the work, the quiet courage, humility, and selfless devotion of the revered Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy. The multitudes who, through the study and application of her teaching, have gained some measure of mental and physical freedom, owe a debt of profound gratitude to this spiritually-minded woman. Her clear-cut exposition of the Scriptures enables the student to unlock and benefit by the treasures therein revealed.
