TODAY there is a call, perhaps more urgent than ever, for every student of Christian Science to use his spiritual understanding to protect himself and others from the aggressive suggestions which are claiming to be present.
In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (pp. 277-286), Mrs. Eddy gives us much helpful thought in connection with peace and war. We read on page 278: "The government of divine Love is supreme. Love rules the universe, and its edict hath gone forth: 'Thou shalt have no other gods before me,' and 'Love thy neighbor as thyself.'"
What is peace, and where do we find this blessing? We find it in the consciousness of God's allness; in the realization of the omnipresence of divine goodness, and the consequent nothingness and powerlessness of all evil beliefs. With the understanding of man's at-one-ment with divine Mind, as taught in Christian Science, we can be calm midst seeming danger, tranquil when all around spells turmoil, serene in spite of bad news, quiet and confident when the material senses argue for fear and despair: we can trust God wholly. The settlement of all international problems depends upon mankind's acceptance of the teachings of Christianity. As men realize the ever-presence and all-power of Him who supplies us with all good, peace will come to the whole world. The truth of being, when understood, protects us from all that would claim to separate us from harmony and joyous activity.
