MARY BAKER EDDY, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes on pages 332 and 333 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Into the real and ideal man the fleshly element cannot enter. Thus it is that Christ illustrates the coincidence, or spiritual agreement, between God and man in His image."
The coincidence of God and man is what Christ Jesus revealed and taught. To him, man was not a miserable sinner, sick, sad, or dying, who must pray to God to be forgiven, and, if it be His will, to be healed and saved from death. Jesus showed forth the truth that man is the son of God, forever existing in spiritual blessedness; and thus he proved that "the coincidence, or spiritual agreement, between God and man in His image" is supremely natural, because it is the truth about God and His spiritual creation.
Christian Science departs from the false theological theory that God is corporeal or personal. Through her understanding of the Bible, Mrs. Eddy has shown us that God is divine Principle, and that only as Principle can God, infinite and eternal good, be truly worshiped and obeyed. The fear of a God of wrath wields its merciless power no longer when we understand the assurances in the Scriptures that "God is love," and that, in the words of the prophet Habakkuk, He is "of purer eyes than to behold evil."
