THE Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," makes the following arresting statement (p. 506): "Through divine Science, Spirit, God, unites understanding to eternal harmony. The calm and exalted thought or spiritual apprehension is at peace."
This statement, based as it is upon her unassailable demonstration of the truth of her discovery, faces the aggression and materiality of this age with an irresistible challenge. It is a statement which contains a very precious promise and shows the means of its fulfillment.
Again and again in the Bible do we find the great promise of peace urged upon us. Was not Job in the hour of his distress helped and encouraged by these words: "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee"? Did not the prophet Isaiah sing this song of confidence in God: "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee"?
