Oh, give us understanding, Lord,
That we may heal as Jesus healed,
That we may gather from Thy Word
The precious truths therein revealed.
For we have faith—full well we know
By Thee our need will be supplied,
And be the answer swift or slow,
We ask and we are satisfied.
Then help us gather, that to sow
Will be an easy consequence,
Proving our strength in things below,
Rich gift of Thine omnipotence.
And as we hope, we realize
The patience of expectancy;
No anguished longing in our eyes,
But joy to leave results to Thee.
No more in Stygian night, dear Lord,
We flounder in uncertainty,
Since to unlock the healing Word
A faithful servant found a key.
Gladly we journey day by day
Through tears and triumphs, good and ill,
Seeing more clearly on our way,
Clinging more closely to Thy will.
Oh, grant us understanding, Lord,
To reach the peak of wisdom's height.
Grasping the fullness of Thy Word,
Gladly we cry, And there is light!
