Over five years ago I found myself in such a condition that I was unable to go on with my work. When I lay down I was overcome with a choking sensation which seemed to close my throat and prevent my breathing. It became so serious that I had great fear. I had been a student of Christian Science for some years previous to this experience, but had strayed, and at this time was not attending church or reading the Lesson Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. However, I had had the experience of being healed by Christian Science, and knew of the results to be obtained by its study and application. After being afflicted for about four weeks, I decided to take up Christian Science again, and got in touch with a practitioner. In three absent treatments I was completely healed, and none of the symptoms has ever returned.
About one year later I decided that I ought to become a member of The Mother Church, and so obtained an application blank from a near-by branch church and filled it out. On my discussing this matter with her. the practitioner asked if I had given up smoking. I informed her that I had not, whereupon she informed me that I could not become a member of The Mother Church without first being healed of the desire for smoking. I had smoked consistently for over thirty years, had tried to stop on numerous occasions, and had also had Christian Science help, but it seemed impossible for me to break the habit. When I was faced with the alternative of giving up membership in The Mother Church, all desire for smoking left me immediately, and I was healed right there and then. The desire to smoke has never returned, and I am extremely grateful.
I have had many healings in Christian Science and am extremely grateful for all of them, but the above-mentioned cases are outstanding in my experience.
