Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science came to me in...

From the April 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science came to me in answer to prayer, not for physical but for mental healing. One whom I dearly loved had passed on, leaving me with two young children to bring up, and I found that a complete change in my mode of living was necessary. From childhood I had been instructed in the Bible, and the life of Jesus had been my inspiration. Nevertheless, as I sought to live and teach these truths, I felt a great need for more light. In my search I read and investigated much, but still was not satisfied. Then, in my greatest need, the textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, was lent to me. The book was a great surprise to me. It lifted me at once into a mental atmosphere so pure and exalted that I could not doubt the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy, "Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it." The way seemed narrow, but we started, my children and I. There was no Christian Science church in town or near us, but later we were grateful to be able to drive to a Christian Science service, twenty-five miles away. There was no practitioner near us, but we trusted in the ever-presence of God, good, and found our understanding of Him sufficient to overcome measles, whooping cough, scarlatina, and other ailments. To the children the healings seemed natural, but to me they were wonderful. My son came home one day from a coasting accident with his underlip split. I washed the lip, and held it together with a bandage overnight. By morning it had knit together. One of my first healings was of the sting of yellow jackets. Several of these little creatures had stung me on the face and had fastened on our dog. Both of us were instantly healed, and all evidence of inharmony vanished. Since that time more than twenty years have passed, during which Truth has continued to prove its healing power. A painful injury to the spine, resulting from a fall, was overcome; also' chronic constipation of long standing. Once, the upper half of a window fell, when I was trying to lower it, and the fingers of both my hands were jammed between the window sashes. Although help did not come at once, I suffered no injury.

Christian Science has brought me countless blessings, among which are class instruction, membership in The Mother Church, and the joy of serving in a branch church. I am profoundly grateful for the labors and example of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for all the activities of The Mother Church.—
