This is my prayer, dear Lord, that I may learn
The beauty of humility, and yearn
For that deep faith that will secure abide,
Challenging worldly arrogance and pride.
Help me to see the flower where the weed
Of mortal mind would fain its error breed;
And may I too dispense the perfume rare
Of kindliness, to lighten earthly care.
And when upon the road to Jericho,
Some false belief has laid a traveler low,
I pray compassion ever be my guide,
To bring me to a needy brother's side.
