CHURCH BUILDING

From the April 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before we can build outwardly, we must build in thought, and with Mind's own materials. Our building begins where we are mentally; and we build rightly with our highest, holiest thoughts. By rejecting all aggressive mental suggestions of apathy, indolence, and procrastination, and by entertaining active, constructive, upward-soaring thoughts or ideas, we establish our right mental foundation. Thus, as our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says on page 254 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," we "work out the spiritual which determines the outward and actual."

Jesus made each human trial and experience an opportunity to demonstrate his true spiritual being. Christian Science broadens and enriches our experiences. It brings a radiance to our daily life which dignifies every task and lifts a duty into a priceless privilege.

The heights of holiness are reached through the pathway of an improved humanity. How much this higher, nobler humanity is needed to hold us together in co-operation for the good of all! Courage, dependability, beauty, and utility belong to divine Mind, and are qualities to be demonstrated in all mental building.
