CLOSE TO GOD

From the April 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Keep me, dear God, so close to Thee,
That tender dawns may symbols be
Of light that shines eternally.

Dear God, keep me so close to Thee,
That each fair-petaled flower I see,
May hint Thy loving smile on me;
So close that glowing sunset skies
Help me to see with opened eyes
The glory that in Spirit lies;

So close that in each one I see
The image of divinity,
The loveliness that comes from Thee;
So close, dear God, when shadows fall,
And softly sounds the robin's call,
I know Thy love encircles all.
