I am one of the multitude of individuals who have had the privilege of knowing of Christian Science since early childhood. This blessing is unspeakable, for I early learned to rely on God, who is ever-present Love, and gradually I gained an understanding of the relationship of God and man which has enabled me to use Christian Science effectively in every detail of my daily experience. This understanding has grown perceptibly since I became an active member of The Mother Church and of a branch church. And at this time I wish to bear testimony to healings connected with church membership.
In my early teens I joined a branch of The Mother Church, but it was not until I went away to college that I became conscious of desiring to become a member of The Mother Church. Self-condemnation, however, prompted me to put aside the thought of such membership, because for some time I had suffered from a goiter which was very evident, and, although treatment had been given me by a practitioner for at least a year, it had not been healed.
At college I was greatly disappointed because there was no Christian Science Organization. When I spoke of this to a friend, she reminded me that such an organization required some members of The Mother Church, and that there were not enough of these at the university. Then I realized that I surely could not expect others to become members of The Mother Church if I, who had relied on Christian Science all my life, was not ready to become one. Thereupon I happily put self aside, and made the necessary application. The second fall, upon my returning to school, a girl with whom I lived approached me saying, "Are you sure you didn't use anything but Christian Science for that goiter?" When I replied in the affirmative she said, "Well, it's gone." Then I saw the efficacy of Christian Science healing. In due time an organization authorized by The Mother Church was established at that university.
