That "man's extremity is God's opportunity" was very definitely proved to me several years ago, when, through the study and application of Christian Science, and with the loving help of a practitioner, a most inharmonious situation was quickly and beautifully healed.
We were striving at that time to overcome lack and unemployment in our home, and since I was the only member of the family who had a position, I felt I could not give it up, although the circumstances under which I worked seemed unbearably unhappy. My hours were such that I believed I had no time for the study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, the salary was small, the work tedious, and the mental atmosphere of the whole organization seemed to be permeated with jealousy and dissatisfaction.
My first step toward healing came when, after hearing a testimony in a Wednesday evening meeting, in which the speaker described the solving of his own problem, which had been similar to mine, I firmly resolved to "seek . . . first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness," which in my case meant the faithful study of the Lesson. Having made this resolution, I was almost immediately gratified by having my hours at the store changed to a later shift, which gave me plenty of time for study.
