When Christian Science was first tried in our home, for one of the children, I did not think I needed it, for I was not aware that I needed healing of anything. But healings began to come to me very soon after I started to read the Lesson-Sermons found in the Christian Science Quarterly and to attend the Christian Science church on Sundays and on Wednesday evenings.
I first witnessed the healing of one of our children of a very bad case of smallpox. Her only remedy was the absent treatment of a Christian Science practitioner. She was well, and the quarantine sign was taken from the house by the health department, at the end of three weeks. There were no scars or aftereffects from the disease.
Ailments of other members of the family soon began to disappear, and I was healed of the tobacco and social drinking habits within a short time. Many bad habits and unlovely traits of character, such as resentment, self-will, and dishonesty, which I had not recognized as present in my thoughts, began to fade out.
