I am grateful for an understanding of the truth of being in Christian Science, as taught by Mary Baker Eddy. It has been a guide and protection to me for many years and through many trials.
A few years before I became interested in Christian Science a sister passed on under medical treatment. A short time after her passing, the company I worked for placed me in a sanatorium for a rest cure. Physicians told my parents that I would most likely contract the same disease that my sister had had. After seven months in the sanatorium I was released. I had gained considerable weight and was much better. Soon after, however, old conditions returned, and I then took up the study of Christian Science. It appealed to me very much. I studied earnestly, soon had a different view of life, and became happier than ever before. But the weight which I had gained at the sanatorium was lost, and fear that the doctors' prediction would be fulfilled, tormented me continually. I was afraid of the thoughts of those who knew I had been at a sanatorium for the same disease. One evening I attended a Christian Science lecture. The lecturer made it so plain that God made everything and that it was good, and that there was not anything to be afraid of, that after the lecture the fear and symptoms vanished forever.
This healing has helped me in later years to understand that no matter how many are believing a falsity, it does not make it real. Mrs. Eddy says in our textbook. Science and Health (p. 211,) "The transfer of the thoughts of one erring mind to another, Science renders impossible."
