Testimonies of Healing

It is with deep gratitude that I...

From the December 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with deep gratitude that I give the following testimony. For many years I groped through the seeming darkness of error, trying in vain to find health. Several specialists and many methods were employed, but none brought about a cure. Fear and discouragement filled my thoughts, yet I continued to pray to God and to ask Him to hold my hand and lead me out of sickness into health.

One morning, while the attending physician and my day nurse, who had been with me for over two years, were waiting for the arrival of a specialist who had been called in for consultation, I earnestly prayed to God to help me overcome my fear; and while I was praying, these words from Proverbs came to me: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." With these words came the calm, sweet assurance that my prayer had been heard and was answered. Right then and there I decided that I would "trust in the Lord," and that I would turn wholeheartedly to Him for my help.

After the specialist had completed his examination, he went downstairs to consult with my physician and my husband. Upon his return to my bedside, I smiled and said, "Whatever your verdict is, it will not alarm me, for I have decided to turn to Christian Science for my help." Instead of his displaying astonished disapproval, he approved of my decision and agreed with me that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."
