That "Truth has a healing effect, even when not fully understood" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p.152) was proved to me by several healings which came to me through my study of the textbook, Science and Health, and through the periodicals. These healings and many that have followed make me most grateful for Christian Science.
About ten years ago a friend brought a copy of Science and Health and left it in my home for me to read, but not being awake to my need of it, I did not open the book. The seed was sown, however, and about three years later a business associate talked to me of Christian Science and, in answer to my questions, told me that his confidence and serenity were the result of his application of the rules of that religion. Later, another business associate, who was also studying Christian Science, called my attention to the two records of creation as given in Genesis—the true record in the first chapter, and the different record beginning in chapter 2, verse 6—and told me that I could not believe both of them. At this time I was earnestly desiring to find more peace, which I had failed to find in my church affiliation. With the thought of investigating this religion, I purchased a copy of the textbook and earnestly began reading it. I was much impressed with the truth expressed, but wanted proof that this religion would do all that my coworkers claimed.
About this time I broke my glasses, which I had worn for twelve years to correct a difficulty which I was having with my eyes. I had them repaired and on the same day broke them again. I accepted this as the opportunity to prove the healing efficacy of Christian Science, and my complete turning to God brought the healing. An article entitled "Having eyes, see ye not?" in the Christian Science Sentinel, called to my attention by a friend, helped me greatly. In the years that have followed I have used my eyes much more than previously, many times far into the night, but have never since felt the need of glasses.
