"A CLEARING UP OF ABSTRACTIONS"

From the May 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mary baker eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 174): "Let us have a clearing up of abstractions. Let us come into the presence of Him who removeth all iniquities, and healeth all our diseases."

Christian Science, in its healing mission, is bringing enlightenment to material thinking, casting out superstition and fear, dispelling illusion and falsehood, and establishing the truth. It is clearing up the abstractions or false theories of the ages and awakening human consciousness to the joy, health, and freedom that accompany a correct understanding of God. It is leading mankind out of the enslaved beliefs of sin, disease, and death into the freedom of spiritual understanding, while restoring that which had long been deemed lost, namely, Christian healing.

The teachings of Christian Science are based upon the teaching of the Bible that God made everything that was made, and without Him nothing was made; that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." It further teaches that this "very good" creation has always been and will eternally remain as perfect as God made it in the beginning. Christian Science shows the unreality of evil. It exposes error, or evil, as falsity and denounces its claim to reality. It exposes evil as illegitimate, baseless, and unreal, and shows mankind how to overcome the fear of it.
