"KEEP THY HEART"

From the May 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The wise man said, "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." This heart that we are to "keep" is our citadel. Herein we live, secure from evil if we exclude it, for the consciousness of Truth and Love is eternal life.

Evil thoughts and purposes are excluded when seen for what they are—falsities attempting to usurp the place of truth. Jesus classified devil—evil—thus: "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him."

We likewise should display courage when facing any situation demanding clear distinction between evil and good. And hostile as were the claims of evil to the pure thought of Jesus, he nevertheless granted them no power, but denounced them as having no truth in them. So doing, he left for his followers the example of facing and asserting dominion over evil without fear of it, and without contending with it as a reality.
