EARLY MORNING

From the December 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Each day that comes to me is a new day,
God's day, in which He will disclose to me
another way, more opportunity
to manifest His graciousness in word and deed.

He will unfold His plan for me yet more
in this new day in which old things have passed away,
all things are new—new thoughts, new words,
new deeds.
The old, the outworn error is dissolved
in Truth's own loving alchemy.
The error may present itself, but lo,
Truth's clear sight looks beyond it
as we look through windowpanes.
The fiery dart may land all-quivering
and burning on our shield of faith;
but how it glances off and down,
away,
when there is nought inflammable to catch its fire.

God gives me a new day
each morning as I rise to meet the dawn,
to meet the challenge of the daily round.
I love the truth; then I must ever see
that Truth alone is real, and let no hasty word
detract from that fair clarity—
no word of doubtful meaning, no deceit,
no falsity in speech or look,
no dodging of the truth.
