"THE OFFICE OF CHRIST, TRUTH"

From the December 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE has reinstated the true meaning of the Christ-idea, which had been obscured by false theology, and explains and proves by demonstration the office of Christ and its relation to humanity.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, defines Christ in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in these words (p. 332): "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual,—yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death."

It is clear, then, that Christ's beneficent power is exerted in behalf of humanity, and that its healing, redemptive, and regenerative influence operates in human consciousness. There is nowhere else for healing to take place, because individual consciousness, at one with and the reflection of Mind, Spirit, Soul, needs no healing. It is the counterfeit consciousness or "the old man," which Paul says must be "put off."
