In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 409): "The real man is spiritual and immortal, but the mortal and imperfect so-called 'children of men' are counterfeits from the beginning, to be laid aside for the pure reality. This mortal is put off, and the new man or real man is put on, in proportion as mortals realize the Science of man and seek the true model." A study of this statement will enable one to enlarge his understanding of the Science of Christianity. In demonstrating the truths of this wonderful Science we must "seek the true model" and put on the real man. This real man of whom our Leader speaks is the image and likeness of God, Mind's perfect idea, and cannot deviate from perfection.
A student of Christian Science, while taking a course in rifle shooting offered by the National Rifle Association, was surprised to find that before even seeing or touching a rifle, he had to spend much time examining cards and posters illustrating the correct method of sighting. It was explained by the instructor that although there were many types and combinations of rifle sights, one thing is true of all of them. If they are not aligned exactly right the shooter might just as well not have any sights on his rifle.
In order to aim correctly, the front sight and rear sight must be aligned with the target. Nearly right is not enough. Just a slight movement to the right or to the left will throw the shooter off his target. Each one in the class was given a knowledge of how to sight. When he actually shot the rifle, however, each one had to do the sighting for himself. The instructor could not do it for him.
