So small a babe! Though heralded
By light so bright that simple men
Were sore afraid.
But, when a heaven-born song proclaimed
The Saviour's birth, and told the place
Where he was laid,
They heard! Then came with eager haste
Through the dark night, and saw the child
So meek and small;
And having seen, made known abroad
Love's glorious message of good will
And peace to all.
Thus upon watching shepherds dawned
The glory of the gentle child
So long ago.
May we with like sincerity
And joy, through Christly charity,
Let all men know.
